Pierwszy pełny tydzień kwietnia to czas rozgrywek siatkówki chłopców WPIAL wypełniony kluczowymi spotkaniami w wyścigu o awans do fazy posezonowej.

The Western Pennsylvania Volleyball Coaches Association set the table Monday morning with the release of the latest top 10 rankings and its Players of the Week for both classifications.

North Allegheny remains the top team in Class 3A, and Seneca Valley held on to No. 2, with Butler (No. 3) and Pine-Richland (No. 4) trading places in the rankings.

Baldwin soared into the rankings at No. 5 after a week which saw it top previous No. 5 Upper St. Clair, 3-0, in a Section 1 contest March 30. It then edged No. 7 Mt. Lebanon, 3-2, last Thursday.

Norwin (No. 6), the Blue Devils, Hempfield (No. 8), Penn-Trafford (No. 9) and Upper St. Clair (No. 10) round out the Class 3A top 10.

Shaler, Seton LaSalle, South Fayette and Thomas Jefferson held onto the top four spots in Class 2A, but there was a change at No. 5.

Our Lady of the Sacred Heart defeated Ambridge, 3-1, in a Section 4 matchup Wednesday. That match helped the Chargers move up from No. 10 to No. 5 in the rankings.

Derry also bumped up two spots to No. 6, with Trinity moving into the top 10 at No. 7.

The rest of the Class 2A top 10 has Montour at No. 8, Deer Lakes at No. 9 and Ambridge at No. 10.

Each week throughout the season, all 45 boys volleyball head coaches will have the opportunity to cast a ballot for the top-10 rankings and also nominate players for each classification’s players of the week.
